1. 1979

    Jon Swift moves to Sarasota from Ohio with his family and opens Jon F. Swift, Inc. He had owned and operated Jon F. Swift & Son, a construction firm in Ohio for 11 years.

  2. 1980

    Jon reads an article in the Sarasota Herald-Tribune explaining the School Board of Sarasota County had purchased stadium seats for Sarasota High School but could not find anyone to install them. He responded to the article and was awarded his first job with the Sarasota County School Board – a client that Swift has served continually during the firm’s 35 years in business.

  3. 1981

    Landed first project for Sarasota County School Board. (Replace seating Sarasota High School football stadium).

  4. 1982

    Landed first project for City of Sarasota Government Renovation of Detective Bureau of Police Department.

  5. 1985

    Landed first project for Sarasota County Government. Dune Walkover (Sarasota County Parks and Recreation Department)

  6. 1987

    Bill Chaplin is hired on January 26, 1987. Bill is Swift’s longest serving employee.

  7. 1992

    Son Jason F. Swift graduates from the University of Florida’s Building Construction program and begins working at Jon F. Swift, Inc. full-time.

  8. 1993

    Landed first project over $1 million: West Elementary School for the School Board of Desoto County, renovation of existing campus, project value of $1.2 million.

  9. 1994

    Purchased a commercial site at 2221 Eighth Street and built the company’s offices, as well as additional warehouse units for rent.

  10. 1998

    Company begins working as a Construction Manager with Bay Haven & Southside Elementary Schools Replacement of roof truss systems.

  11. 2004

    Landed first project over $14.2 million: Phillippi Shores Elementary School, School Board of Sarasota County, $14 million.

  12. 2008

    The Swift Family Foundation builds and donates a new media center at Phillippi Shores Elementary School named for Jon Swift’s mother, Catherine H. Swift.

  13. 2009

    Jason F. Swift takes over as President of Jon F. Swift, Inc. managing the day-to-day operations of the company.

  14. 2011

    Company selected as part of the team to construct the $48 million Booker High School Replacement Project .

  15. 2013

    Jason Swift serves as Chairman of the Gulf Coast Builders Exchange.

  16. 2013

    Awarded $17 million Siesta Key Beach Park Improvement Project by Sarasota County Government to renovate and upgrade Siesta Key Public Beach, named the #1 Beach in the Nation by Dr. Beach in 2011.

  17. 2014

    Jon F. Swift, Inc. celebrates 35 years in business and grows leadership of the firm with the addition of Ben Sasse as Vice President.

  18. 2015

    Jason Swift serves as Chairman of Education Foundation Board of Directors.

  19. 2016

    Awarded $15 million St. Armands Parking Structure Project by the City of Sarasota.
