Venice North Pier Parking & Beach Pavilion

This project provided much needed parking improvements with improved utility infrastructure in two phases of work, along with construction of a 2,100sf beach pavilion structure located seaward of the coastal construction control line and several wood dune cross-over walkways. The Venice North Pier Parking and Beach Pavilion project required 9,389+ tons of imported fill, deep utility installation with de-watering, concrete auger cast pile foundations, heavy timber structure framing, frangible walkways and ramps with guardrails and handrails. In addition, the Swift Team installed 139 new parking spaces, and 11 low sodium “turtle friendly” parking lights.

This project had significant challenges involving environmental issues related to habitats for endangered species such as nesting sea turtles and Scrub Jays. Building improvements were engineered to the most stringent building codes for wind velocity and flooding criteria. With the final extension of the FDEP Beaches and Costal Systems Permit scheduled to expire on May 17th, 2008, the Venice City Council approved the final phase of the project. This left only 75 days to permit and complete the project, with the vast majority of the project’s work including importing fill, utility installation, and parking all falling under this tightly scheduled phase of the work. Jon F. Swift, Inc was able to successfully procure all the materials and complete the construction prior to the expiration of the FDEP permits.
